Inmate death investigation complete
OROFINO, Idaho — The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office has completed the investigation into the death of an Idaho Department of Corrections Prison in Orofino.
According the the Sheriff’s Office, a toxicology report shows the only drugs found in Alexander Mecklin’s system were drugs that were used in resuscitation efforts at the hospital.
According to the report, Mecklin’s death was caused by an undetected, hereditary heart condition.
Idaho Department of Corrections officials say Mecklin collapsed in the prison’s weight room in the afternoon of January 23.
Officials said staff began life-saving measures and an ambulance rushed Mecklin to a hospital where he was pronounced dead
