Idahoans raise more than $1 million for local nonprofits on Idaho Gives day

Thursday was Idaho Gives 2019, a 24-hour period during which Idahoans are able to donate to the nonprofit of their choice.

“It’s a day of giving back to the local nonprofits throughout the state of Idaho and for us here in north Idaho we decided to do a block party,” said Octavian Rivas with the Idaho Central Credit Union.

ICCU sponsors Idaho Gives. Rivas said, traditionally, Coeur d’Alene has held a kick-off breakfast to start the event but they decided to extend the opportunity into the day.

“We’re doing some food here, we’re doing corn hole tournaments we have some of the nonprofits hers at [the Human Rights Education Institute] as well to talk about their nonprofits,” he said.

The event was hosted by the HREI, the Panhandle Parks Foundation, the Coeur d’Alene Carousel Foundation and the Museum of North Idaho.

Donors can give in person or online, and they get to select the nonprofit that will receive their gift,

“The goal for today throughout the state is to reach 1.7 million,” Rivas said.

As of 4:00pm, donors had raised nearly $1.3 million for 585 organizations.

“As a volunteer to be able to give back and raise awareness of those nonprofits that people might not know about is 100 percent awesome because it’s and overall it’s really going to help our community,” Rivas said.
