Iconic Colville Cross vandalized, lights shot out
STEVENS CO., Wash. — The lights of the Colville Cross have gone dark.
The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office said someone shot out the lights of the cross that sits atop Colville Mountain.
The cross is privately owned and operated by a local group in the area, but is visible for several miles.
“This is a private icon that brings us home and watches over,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the crime could be considered a felony depending on the extent of the damage.
