Hoopfest setup underway
SPOKANE, Wash. — Setup is underway for the world’s largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
Hoopfest is now just three days away and a lot of work goes into getting the Lilac City basketball ready.
This weekend, Spokane is getting taken over by 6,000 teams, 3,000 volunteers, and 250,000 fans.
“Just like having the friends and family there, just supporting people,” Jackson Leech, who plans on cheering on his friends, said.
Crews were busy setting up Nike Center Court Wednesday, getting the bleachers in place and the floor laid down.
Our KXLY team was hard at work, as well, getting the lights and cameras ready for the Hoopfest action.
“We basically want to create a great environment for people to come down here, but we also want to show that environment on TV,” Jim Hazelton, KXLY, said.
Hoopfest this year is going to look a little different.
“We’ve moved the store, we’ve moved the Toyota shootoff, we’ve moved team check-in. They’re all in great places this year, but all different,” Rob Davis, Hoopfest Facilities Manager, said.
Team check-in will now be held in Riverfront Park’s pavilion.
It starts Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and on Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.
But don’t worry about the changes.
Signs across downtown Spokane will help you find your way and your official Hoopfest media sponsor, KXLY, will help you navigate the changes.
