Homeowner helps deputies arrest burglar

A homeowner helped Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrest a burglar Monday morning near Cusick.

Deputies responded to a 911 call around 8:45 a.m. from a property owner on Bond Road who said he had a suspected burglar at gunpoint. The property owner said he had walked out of his home that morning and saw a pick-up truck that he did not recognize in his driveway. The truck had the property owner’s trailer hooked up to it.

The property owner said he then grabbed his gun and phone and saw two unknown men coming out of his garage.

The property owner told the men to freeze. One man ran off after the property owner fired a warning shot at the ground, but the other stayed in place.

Pend Oreille County deputies, Kalispel Police, and Washington State Department of Corrections officers all responded to the scene.

Donald R. Brown, 46, of Usk, was arrested on scene for burglary, theft, and possession of stolen property.

An investigation revealed multiple stolen items in the suspect vehicle. Deputies were also able to recover additional stolen items belonging to the property owner at Brown’s property.

The case will remain active until the second suspect has been identified. Additional arrests are expected.
