District and regional playoffs continued on Saturday with a number of local teams advancing to their next respective rounds.

In a 4A loser-out, winner-to-state match-up between Mead and Ferris, the Panthers rallied for three runs in the bottom of the 7th to walk-off with a 5-4 win over the Saxons thanks to a walk-off RBI single by Jordan McGowan.  Mead will play Richland next Saturday (5/19) at Avista Stadium.  The Bombers beat Gonzaga Prep 5-1 in the 4A Regional title game so the Bullpups will advance as the 2nd seed to state.

In the 3A Regional title game, Kennewick proved to be too much for Mt. Spokane, beating the Wildcats 17-4.  Mt. Spokane advances to state as the 2nd seed.

High School baseball, softball and soccer recap for Saturday 5/12

In a 2A loser-out, winner-to-state game between East Valley and Ellensburg, the Knights saw their season come to an end with an 8-2 loss.  In the 2A Regional title game, Selah beat Cheney 4-1.  The Blackhawks advance to state as the 2nd seed.

The GNL district title game saw West Valley beating Cheney, 9-3.  WV will be the top seed for the 2A Regional, while Cheney and Clarkston both advance.

Central Valley got a goal and an assist from Justin Alcala and Alex Renz to beat Chiawana, 2-1, in the opening round of the 4A boys soccer Regionals.  CV will host Emerald Ridge on Tuesday.  Elsewhere in the GSL, Mead lost to Davis, 2-0, and Lewis & Clark fell to Eisenhower, 2-0.

Mt. Spokane’s Jack Gularte scored the lone goal and Robert Powles posted a clean sheet as the Wildcats beat Sunnyside 1-0 at Joe Albi Stadium in the 3A Regionals.
