Help Salvation Army Spokane and Cenex Zip Trip raise $50,000 for Backpacks for Kids
SPOKANE, Wash. — It’s hard to believe, but its already time to start thinking about back to school!
In an effort to make sure every child has what they need to start on the first day, the Salvation Army Spokane and local Cenex Zip Trip stores are partnering up for the 8th year for Backpacks for Kids. The drive that supplies backpacks filled with school supplies like pencils, crayons and notebooks who’s families financially can’t afford them.
Through July 31st, donate at Cenex Zip Trip stores and receive a coupon for a free drink of soda or coffee for your next visit. In order to receive the coupon, you must donate at least $1.
Their goal is to raise $50,000 for the 5,000 backpacks they’ll distribute.
Salvation Army Spokane Major Ken Perine said, “it’s a big expense for parents on top of the clothes they are buying them and haircuts and all the other stuff that goes along with kids going back to school.”
“I help with the distribution aspect and it’s kind of neat because you see some of the customers come through and some of our employees come through and take advantage of the backpacks for kids,” shared David Barrett, regional manager for Spokane Cenex Zip Trip stores.
Distribution day will be held on August 15th. There will also a resource fair with haircuts for kids and a special appearance by the tooth fairy.
If you need help getting your kids back to school supplies, be sure to bring medical cards, report cards or school registration to show how many children are in your household.
