Helena woman charged with starving baby
HELENA, Mont. — A Helena woman who was given a deferred sentence for leaving her then-6-week-old baby alone in a car while she shopped in April is now charged with felony child endangerment for failing to adequately feed the baby.
The Independent Record reports 27-year-old Alisha Rose Guyaz was arrested Monday after taking her 7-month-old son to the doctor. Charging documents say the baby’s ribs and shoulder blades were visible through his skin, he weighed just eight pounds and was extremely malnourished.
Court records say Guyaz had been told during an earlier medical exam that she needed to augment breastfeeding with formula because the child was not getting enough to eat. Guyaz reportedly told officers she was still just breastfeeding the baby.
