Hayden man named best pickleball player best in the world
HAYDEN, Idaho — A Washington native and current Hayden resident was named the best professional pickleball player in the world.
Tyson McGuffin, who grew up in Lake Chelan, won the men’s professional singles title and a gold medal at the 2019 U.S. Open Pickeball Championship in Florida this past week.
According to his sponsor Selkirk Sport, McGuffin was already a four-time Grand Slam Gold Medalist in men’s open singles, a four-time National Champion and won his first Grand Slam in men’s open doubles in 2018.
Selkirk Sport is a family-owned pickleball paddle company based in Hayden, Idaho.
KXLY caught up with McGuffin in 2018 to learn the basics of pickleball. McGuffin said pickleball is the word’s fastest-growing sport. In 2015, 250,000 players participated in the sport. In 2018, there was close to three million. McGuffin said the sport is great for people of all skill levels and ages.
