Having trouble filing for unemployment? There’s a local resource you should know about

SPOKANE, Wash. – Unemployment numbers in Spokane have gone way up over the past few weeks.

Those claims are already in the thousands. That’s not including all of the people that haven’t been able to get through to the Employment Security Department.

If you’re one of those people, there’s a non-profit law firm based in Spokane that deals with unemployment issues. They’ve recently hired on more staff to help as many people as they can during this pandemic.

Between March 29 – April 4, there were more than 11,000 unemployment claims filed in Spokane County. On top of that, there are several people that aren’t able to get hold of the ESD by phone.

If you’re one of those people, the Spokane Unemployment Law Project wants to help. The non-profit, based both in Spokane and Seattle, is there to help people get their benefits.

They offer advice and there are also attorneys who can represent you, free of charge.

“They really want and appreciate that other voice on the end of the phone saying, ‘Hey. I’m here. I can answer a question. I can probably help you. Let’s talk about what’s going on.’,” said Juliana Repp, Managing Attorney with the Spokane Unemployment Law Project

Although the help is free, they do accept donations.

They also have a Facebook page and a website where you can find daily updates, as well as helpful resources.
