#happylife: Kick-off the summer season at the Spokane Humane Society’s annual Parade of Paws walk!

If you are looking for a fun way to kick-off the summer season, the Spokane Humane Society’s annual pledge walk is less than two weeks away!

This year, they have a pretty big goal – hoping to have 1,000 dogs join them on the either 2 or 4-mile walk in the area around their North Spokane property.

Teams, families or individuals can sign up here or bring their printed pledge forms to the June 15 event. Those that raise $25 will get a swag bag of goodies and coupons for their efforts, while anyone who raises $100 will get a commemorative Parade of Paws t-shirt. To participate in the walk, donations are encouraged but not mandatory,

For those bringing along their dogs, the Spokane Humane Society asks that you use a non-retractable leash. Should dog owners choose to take the longer route, which brings walkers up past Mount Saint Michael’s, owners can have their dogs blessed at no cost.

If you do not have a dog, the Spokane Humane Society will have a small amount of adoptable dogs available for walking.

After the Parade of Paws, participants are invited to a fair on the Spokane Humane Society grounds. There will be a bouncy house and face painting for kids, food trucks and stands, dog pedicures, $10 pet vaccinations and microchips and a photobooth.

If the kids have a blast at the event, be sure to inquire about the Spokane Humane Society’s Barks and Rec summer camp for kids. Week-long sessions will see children “adopt” a dog or cat for the week, learn what it takes to be a volunteer, veterinarian or even a Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy! They’ll be bringing their working dogs up for a visit one day.
