#happylife: Avoid the crowds with grocery pickup and delivery
SPOKANE, Wash — This weekend, millions of Americans will hit the grocery store, list in hand, to gather what they need to cook a Thanksgiving dinner. If the thought of navigating crowded aisles and waiting in long lines makes you dread the holiday altogether, we’ve found ways to get what you need while avoiding the pre-Thanksgiving day crowds.
More and more people are using grocery delivery services or curbside pickup to avoid the grocery store rush. Here’s a list of some of the options in our area.
In Spokane, Rosauers curbside pickup with a service called Rosauers Online Express. Simply pick out your groceries online; the store will bag and hold the groceries in a refrigerated and frozen pickup area until you pick them up. It’s only available at the Lincoln Heights, North Division Y and East Sprague locations. It costs $4.95 per order and is available during specific hours. Rosauers also offers delivery for $12.95 per order.
Fred Meyer offers grocery delivery and store pickup. According to the store website, you can order and have groceries delivered to you “in as little as an hour, or when you want them.” Fred Meyer works through the site Instacart and says it charges $3.99 for the delivery. You need to create an account and it doesn’t deliver to all neighborhoods in our area.
The Instacart site will also let you order groceries from Safeway, Albertsons, Natural Grocers, Costco and Total Wine and More.
If you like Walmart prices but don’t have time to navigate the huge store, you can pick up your groceries outside there, too. It’s a free service; you just go online to this website, choose your items and reserve a pickup time and you’re off and running.
You may have to spend a little extra in some cases, but it may be worth it for you to make your selections in the comfort of your home and not have to deal with the crowds leading up to Thanksgiving.
