Happy Homecoming For Local Soldiers

It was a happy homecoming Friday night at the Spokane International Airport as dozens of local soldiers deployed for a year reunited with their families.

“I’m really, really excited,” said 11 year old Gabriela Alf, as she waited for her dad’s plane to land.

“I’m going to kiss him,” said 4 year old Katalina Alf.

Captain Frederick Alf and 24 other soldiers from the Inland Northwest volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan a year ago.

The soldiers are part of the US Army Reserve’s 309th Engineering Company (MAC) based out of Minnesota. The local soldiers are stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base.

While in Afghanistan the unit dismantled and detonated 270 improvised explosives devices.

“I’m so proud of him, and I’m proud of the entire group that went over there,” Elizabeth Alf said.
