Gregory Richard Thompson

Gregory Richard Thompson passed away April 6, 2018 at home surrounded by loved ones. He had recently been diagnosed with throat cancer.

He was born July 2, 1929 in Los Angeles, CA to Gurdon and Madeline Thompson. He attended school in Los Angeles as well as California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, studying agricultural engineering. He served in the 7th Calvary Division of the US Army in Japan and Korea.

Greg met his wife Shirley in San Francisco in April 1952 on a blind date. They just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Greg’s career included working in the fields of agriculture and engineering. The family moved from California to Spokane in 1973.

He was a member of the Inland Empire Senior Golf Association. He enjoyed square and round dancing and had been a member in the Wildrose Ramblers Club, Starshooters, Whirlaways and served on the Spokane Area council board.

Greg is survived by his wife, Shirley; brother, Herb (Karen) Thompson; children, John Thompson (wife, Jeannine and grandchildren Clare and Katelyn), Ann Gower (granddaughter, Hayley) and Paula (Keith) Glanville.

His wry sense of humor and natural joie de vivre were greatly admired. He will be missed.

Our thanks go to Holy Family ER doctors, Dr. Mitchell ENT and Dr. Sean Hurley. Also, Spokane County Fire District 9 whose teams helped so much in the middle of the nights when Greg would fall. And of course, thanks to Hospice of Spokane for their support and assistance during this sad journey. The support of our friends has been appreciated. Thanks to all.
