GRANT CO. Wash. — The 2020 Grant County Fair has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fair Director Jim McKiernan said regulations for reopening and requirements from the Health District make the fair financially unfeasible.

The five-day event was expected to bring in 100,000 visitors this year.

McKiernan said the fair is typically a “break-even proposition” and has slowly moved to paying for itself with the potential for revenue to be slightly more than expenses. However, the Health District said there was no way the carnival could safely be a part of the fair this year.

The fair staff and livestock committee are still working to plan some type of showing and judging for children who have purchased animals.

The staff is now processing reimbursements for carnival wristbands, vendor payments and fair camping.
