SPOKANE, Wash. — Former Gonzaga basketball player Chet Holmgren is nominated for an ESPY.

The ESPY Awards (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards) honor individual and team athletic achievements.

Holmgren is one of four finalists for this year’s Best College Athlete in Men’s Sports award. He is the only basketball player nominated in the category and is up against Bryce Young of Alabama Football, Dante Polvara of Georgetown Men’s Soccer and Logan Wisnauska of Maryland Lacrosse.

Holmgren only played one year for the Zags, but became the highest-drafted draft pick in Gonzaga’s history. He went second overall to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This is the second year in a row that Gonzaga has been nominated for an ESPY. In 2021, the Gonzaga/UCLA Final Four game won Best Game of the Year.
