Gonzaga women’s soccer falls to Texas after leading by two goals
SPOKANE, Wash. — A two-goal lead wasn’t enough to give the Gonzaga women’s soccer team a win on Sunday. The Zags fell to the Texas Longhorns 3-2 at Luger Field Sunday afternoon.
The Zags took an early lead to start the match thanks to a goal from Marissa Garcia in the third minute. Garcia scored her sixth career goal from a volley thanks to a cross from Giana Riley, her first collegiate assist.
Forward Erin Healey gave the Zags a 2-0 lead in the second half after chipping a shot over the Longhorn’s goalkeeper. Less than a minute later, the Longhorns cut the Zags’ lead in half thanks to Trinity Byars.
Texas would tie the game at two goals a piece in the 67th minute when Liz Worden kicked in a loose ball in the box. The Longhorns would score the game-winner in the 74th minute from a goal from Emily Jane Cox.
GU keeper Lyza Bosselmann made two saves for the Zags.
The Bulldogs (1-2-2) will host Cal Poly on Thursday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
