Gonzaga women advance to final round of WCC Tournament

Th e Gonzaga women pulled off a harrowing victory during a game that ended up going into double overtime.

During their semifinal game against the St. Mary’s Gaels, the Zags faced stiff competition.

St. Mary’s jumped out with a 7-0 lead early on, but by the half, Gonzaga had cut the lead to just 4 points.

However, things took a turn for the worse when Laura Stockton, who has been a powerhouse all year, went out with a leg injury.

The Zags didn’t let that get them down, though. They came back to tie the game and go into overtime.

During the first extra and grueling 5 minute period, yet another Zag went down. Jill Townsend exited the game with an ankle injury putting the team in an even tougher position.

Both teams tied yet again sending the game into a second overtime period.

With just 2 seconds left on the clock, Zykera Rice hit a buzzer beater layup to win the game.

With the win, 12th-ranked Gonzaga advances to their third consecutive championship appearance in Las Vegas.
