Gonzaga overwhelms Fairleigh Dickinson in first round of NCAAs
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — It was over before it started. Eight minutes in to their matchup with 16-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson, not even 48 hours removed from their First Four game, Gonzaga was already up 15 points.
There would be no hint of another one-seed upset by a 16-seed like Virginia last year. Once the Zags saw a few shots go down, they built a 36-point lead at half, helped by a 58% three-point shooting percentage. Head Coach Mark Few had his team pressing the entirety of those first 20 minutes, to take advantage of a tired Knights team. FDU just made school history by winning their first NCAA tournament game on Tuesday in Dayton, Ohio.
The Zags used a versatile scoring attack, with 5 players in double figures early in the second half. Rui Hachimura finished with 21 points on 8-15 shooting, but Killian Tillie scores a season-high 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
Gonzaga will play the winner of the Syracuse and Baylor game.
