Get behind the wheel at the Green Bluff Grange’s annual Spin In Saturday

Are you patient? A good multi-tasker and up for a challenge? Some experience sewing or knitting won’t hurt either.

Tomorrow’s spin in at the Green Bluff Grange might just be the event for you. The top floor of the meeting hall promises to be packed with spinners for the annual free event that gives attendees the chance to watch the medieval art form in action and maybe even give it a try! That’s how one of this year’s organizers started one of her favorite hobby.

“I brought my wheel, I’d just purchased it and I didn’t know how to make it work and a lady who was watching me from across the room decided to come over and teach me how to spin on the spot,” explained Kate Lyons Holestine.

For the first time this year, they’ve made a community loom which they plan to hang in the newly remodeled Grange. They’re asking you bring your knitting scraps to be a part of it.

Francine Mihalasky, who also organizes the Spin In explained, ” It will be filled with stories, it will be filled with, you could say, ‘who did what? And when? And from what sweater?’ It becomes a little bit of a living history.”

There will also be a vendor fair with homemade soaps and teas as well as yarn for sale, so you can take your spinning up to the next level!

If that isn’t enticing enough, for $7 you can enjoy a soup lunch with money raised going to the Green Bluff Scholarship Fund.

The event runs Saturday from 9am to 4pm. Admission is free. The Green Bluff Grange is located at 9809 East Green Bluff Road in Colbert.
