PRIEST LAKE, Idaho — Academy Award nominee Gary Sinise has awarded the East Priest Lake First District with a substantial grant through his foundation, providing critical fire kit and incident gear turnouts to volunteers.

East Priest Lake Fire Chief Tom Renzi applied for the $27,000 grant, which will pay for 12 turnouts to outfit and protect volunteer firefighters.

The Gary Sinise Foundation said it was pleased to assist a new fire district and a community in need of better access to first responders. The district was formed by voters in 2020, following several wildfires and the loss of two homes in the area.

“Please know that this is our pleasure, and serves as a ‘Thank You’ from Gary and our thousands of donors from all over the state,” the First Responder Outreach Team said. “The work you and your members have done, and will continue to do, is invaluable to your community and we are honored to be able to support you.”

“We are greatly appreciative of the support they showed the EPLFD by giving us this generous grant,” Renzi said.

Sinise is known for his role as “Lieutenant Dan” in the movie Forrest Gump, as well as his roles in Apollo 13 and Truman.
