Garage fire threatens nearby homes, power lines in East Central

Around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, fire crews responded to 2300 E. 6th Ave. in East Central Spokane for reports of an explosion.

The fire had begun in a garage and quickly spread to two other garages, and charred a power pole.

Avista responded to the scene and shut off power to about five homes as a precaution.

Fire crews were able to get the flames completely out around 6:00 p.m.

The garages were severely burned and the side of a nearby home caught fire. Avista says they’ll have to replace the burned pole.

No one was injured. Fire crews with the Special Investigation Unit are working to figure out what caused this fire. Anyone with information that could help can call 509-625-7000.
