Four of five mayoral candidates to participate in first debate Thursday night
SPOKANE, Wash. — Do you have a question you want to ask the candidates running to be Spokane’s next mayor? Thursday night is your chance.
Four of the five mayoral candidates will be participating in their first forum Thursday night at the Downtown Spokane Public Library. The forum is being hosted by KYRS Community Radio and the Spokane Public Library. All candidates have confirmed their attendance except for Nadine Woodward, who has a schedule conflict she said “made it impossible” for her to attend.
Woodward’s campaign told KXLY4 it had a previously scheduled campaign event that night which had already been paid for. Woodward’s Campaign Manager Abra Belke said Wednesday that the campaign was invited to the forum one month ago and tried for about two weeks to find a way to attend both events, but was not able to.
Belke said Woodward will instead be appearing on three different talk radio shows over the next two weeks, one of which is the KYRS show hosted by Paul Potocky, who will be moderating Thursday night’s forum. The campaign did not disclose what or where the previously scheduled event is.
The other four candidates– Shawn Poole, Ben Stuckart, Jonathan Bingle, and Kelly Cruz– all will be at the event. Questions for the candidates are not being prepared in advance, according to forum organizers. Instead, all questions will be submitted by audience members. Anyone wanting to submit a question is encouraged to arrive early to do so.
The forum begins at 6:30 p.m. at 906 W. Main.
