Former Eastern Washington University President Mary Cullinan dies
SPOKANE, Wash. — Former Eastern Washington University president Mary Cullinan has died.
Interim President David May informed the campus of her sudden passing Monday.
“I don’t have any details to share, but it is a shock,” May said.
Cullinan, who was the university’s first female president, stepped down from the role in August 2020 following a vote of no confidence by the faculty senate. She retained a position in the English department, but in October announced she would take a nine-month sabbatical.
The cause of her death has not been announced and May asked that the community respect her family’s privacy at this time.
