Former Bulldog Rem Bakamus to reunite with team during Baylor matchup
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Gonzaga men’s basketball team will play the Baylor Bears on Saturday, but the game is likely to be a bit bittwersweet for one Zag .
Rem Bakamus , who played for the Zags from 2012-2017, is currently an graduate assistant for the Baylor men’s basketball team.
” Yeah it’s hard, ” Bakamus said. ” Those are all my guys, you know. I want to beat them but I still love them. ”
Bakamus was a walk-on at GU and won over the hearts of Zag fans for his enthusiam , not only for the game, but for his teammates. Fans could always count on Bakamus to be cheering on his basketball brothers from the sideline with his famed air guitar moves.
” I think I’m a Zag 364 days, ” Bakamus joked. ” I want to see all those guys succeed, I want to see them succeed in life, the coaches, they’re all great dudes. They’ve taken really good care of me, so I’ve got a lot of love for them. But Saturday is a different story. ”
Bakamus is not the only former Zag working for Baylor. John Jakus , who was the Director of Basketball Operations at GU for three seasons, is currently an assistant coach for the Bears.
The Zags take on the Bears Satuday at 4:10 p.m. in Salt Lake City. The game will air on TBS.
