For the next week, expect sunsets before 4 p.m.
SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane will see sun set before 4 p.m. every day for nearly a week.
Starting December 7, the sun will set at 3:58 p.m. and remain that way until December 14, when the sun will set a whole minute later.
Sunrises will continue to come later in the day until after the Winter Solstice.
4 News Now chief meteorologist Kris Crocker points out that due to the equation of time, sunsets actually come later before the solstice. Oddly enough, the coldest day of the year also comes after the solstice, due to the Earth’s temperature balance.
All of this occurs because of how our clocks keep time, and Kris Crocker remarks that they keep time more perfectly than the Earth ellipses.
Long story short, the cold, dark days are coming!
