Focus on the basics to get ready for Hoopfest

Hoopfest basics

Hoopfest is 23 days away and many of us just can’t wait but maybe you find yourself signed up to play and feel you’re not quite ready to take the court just yet. If that’s the case, here’s what to do before the big weekend.

Marcus Coty with Basics Basketball says its all about the basics; that’s his philosophy in his summer camps. Basics basketball camps are held after Hoopfest in mid-July for junior high and high school students.

This year, among many other special guests, Ryan Goodson will assist with training in those camps.

“He is Stephen Curry’s trainer, and you saw what that kid did this summer or this basketball season. You know we really focus in a lot on ball handling, being in the right position, a lot of ball handling, a lot of court work and a lot of conditioning,” Coty said.

Coty says for the Average Joe gearing up for Hoopfest the same philosophy applies: Get in shape, get in the gym, focus on the basics, and shoot, shoot, shoot.

“To be a good shooter you got to get up anywhere from minimum 200 shots a day if you are really serious about it, you know, and ball handling should be done at least 20 minutes a day just get out there and get it done,” Coty said.
