Five Straight: Gonzaga punches ticket to another Sweet Sixteen with 83-71 win over Baylor
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Geno Crandall lobbed a ball deep into the key, intended for a low post player, but it found the bottom of the net for a three-pointer . Turns out, they could have thrown any lob toward the rim, chances are good that Brandon Clarke would’ve made sure it counted for two points.
A new career-high for the redshirt junior, who had 36 points on 15-of-18 shooting helped build Gonzaga’s big lead that extended into the second half, and fended off Baylors comebacks in the second.
Corey Kispert was the second-leading scorer with 16 points.
Now, for the fifth year in a row, Gonzaga will advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
They will play fourth-seeded Florida State next Thursday in Anaheim, Calif. The Seminoles ended Gonzaga’s season last year in the exact same position, and they beat 12th-seeded Murray State to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. Tip-off times are TBA.
