Firefighter suffers minor injuries, woman detained after house fire
SPOKANE, Wash. — Around 7:00 p.m., fire crews from the Spokane Fire Department responded to the 4000 block N. Pittsburg St. following reports of heavy black smoke and fire coming from a home.
Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from the front door and significant fire throughout the first floor. The incident was upgraded to bring additional resources to fight the fire.
Firefighters conducted an aggressive search to ensure there were no occupants. The exceptionally cold weather created difficult conditions for firefighters and contributed to several issues with frozen breathing apparatus.
However, crews were able to contain the fire and worked throughout the night to ensure that it was completely extinguished.
One firefighter suffered some minor burns while fighting the fire and the one woman that was a resident of the home was transported for smoke inhalation.
She was later detained for investigation of her involvement in causing the fire.
The fire caused severe damage throughout the structure.
