Fire near Backyard Public House damages structure

Just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, crews responded to reports of smoke coming from a building near the Backyard Public House on Broadway in West Spokane.

Shortly after crews arrived, the fire was upgraded to “working” and crews began to fight it.

Crews started fighting flames on the first floor, but eventually had to split up after fire was spotted in the basement.

Ten units and two fire chiefs responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

An investigator is on the scene. No cause has been determined yet.

UPDATE: Fire on 1811 West Broadway is knocked down. No word on cause and no reported injuries. Investigator is on scene but hasn’t gotten into the building yet. #Spokane @kxly4news @SpokaneFire
