Fire crews battle high winds, knock down fire south of Spokane
SPOKANE, Wash – Crews from several local agencies were battling high winds and fire in Spokane County Sunday night, just south of the city limits near Palouse Highway and Valley Chapel Road.
Spokane County Fire District 8 tweeted video of the conditions just after 10:00 p.m. Sunday.
Firefighters said one home was initially in danger, but crews made up of District 8, Valley City, the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management worked together to sop the progress of the flames by 11:00 p.m.
Crews estimated that up to two acres burned in the fire.
Some firefighters remained on scene throughout the night to make sure the fire did not flare up again. Investigators will return to the scene Monday morning to determine a cause.
This is a developing story. We’ll update with more information as we get it.
