Finding the Helpers: Zips donates 240 hot meals to House of Charity, Rising Strong
SPOKANE, Wash. — The Zips on E. Francis was busy cooking on Thursday morning.
The local fast food restaurant prepared more than 200 burgers and fries for local Catholic Charities programs.
The hot meals were delivered to the House of Charity and Rising Strong programs to help feed those in need assistance. It has been more than a month since House of Charity’s clients have received a hot meal. The cafeteria has been closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and they have only been able to provide sack lunches.
“We heard about the need and we wanted to help the community because the community has been helping us stay open during this difficult time. So we’re very thankful and wanted to give back,” said Amy Costello, the Zips owner.
Costello said this was a way to help people in need, while keeping her workers busy. They even took regular orders while putting all of these meals together.
“Giving them a hot meal in the middle of a pandemic, that just shows the heart and soul of Spokane in so many ways,” said Rob McCann, the president and CEO of Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington.
