Fatal hit-and-run suspect arrested while appearing in court on DUI charge

SPOKANE, Wash. — A 34-year-old man has been booked on charges stemming from a fatal hit-and-run on Hamilton St. earlier this month.

Spokane Police have arrested and charged Nicholas Kenneth Wesbrooks in the death of 50-year-old Michael Bryan Donahey.

On Tuesday morning, a Major Crimes detective and deputy prosecutor saw Wesbrooks in court for an unrelated traffic matter. He was appearing for charges related to driving under the influence. Once he was identified, they quickly took him into custody and booked him for vehicular hit-and-run.

Police said Donahey was walking along southbound Hamilton near the I-90 on-ramp when he was hit by a car. A following driver saw what happened and called 911. Responding officers and medics attempted CPR, but Donahey died at the scene.
