Fairchild AFB welcomes new commander
FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. — It was a beautiful Friday morning in Airway Heights as Colonel Derek Salmi officially took command of Fairchild Air Force Base.
In his final address on the base – Salmi’s predecessor, Colonel Ryan Samuelson, shared background information on the new Commander.
“My wife Melissa and I were blessed to have the Salmis, Derek and Kris in our squadron at Dover Air Force Base,” declared Samuelson. “Derek was number 1 of 19 of my captains where I had the honor of promoting him to Major so there’s a definite deep connection between the two of us so there’s a pleasure to be here for this today.”
Salmi comes to the inland Northwest after spending two years in the United Kingdom, where he scheduled all refueling operations in Europe. He brings with him his wife Kris and his three young children.
“My family and i look forward to being a member of your proud wing- your select team, and your close family,” stated Salmi. “Kris and I thank you for the warm welcome and look forward to meeting you in the coming weeks.”
