EWU professor killed in three-car crash near Cheney
CHENEY, Wash. — A three-car crash 5 miles east of Cheney, Washington has left an EWU professor dead.
The crash happened at SR904 and 5th Avenue around 7:20 p.m., on Sunday.
According to Washington State Patrol, a pickup truck driven by 63-year-old Charles V. Mutschler of Cheney was headed west on SR904 near 5th street, when it crossed over the center turn lane into the eastbound lanes.
The pickup struck one car in the rear, then hit a second one head-on. The woman in the second car, 21-year-old Kathryn Sinn of Newman Lake, was injured and hospitalized. Mutschler died at the scene.
Nobody in the first car was injured.
Charles Mutschler was a long-time professor and archivist at Eastern Washington University. As of August of 2018, he was serving as the Interim Dean of Libraries.
