EWU notifies students of sexual assault on campus
CHENEY, Wash — Eastern Washington University sent out an email to students, warning of a sexual assault reported on campus and offering resources for those who need them.
According to the email, a sexual assault of a female student was “reported to have occurred on or near campus on the morning of January 21st between 2:30 and 3:50 a.m.” EWU Police haven’t released much detail, only to say it “likely” occurred in Morrison Hall.
In the original email, EWU Police said they were looking for a man named “Antoine” who was a person of interest. They’ve recently said they’ve located that person and he is not a suspect.
In the email sent to students Monday, EWU offered safety tips. Those tips include being aware of surroundings and seeking help from police for others who may need it. It also suggests that in some cases, “you have the right to yell NO loudly or do whatever is necessary to get the person to let go.”
Students are also encouraged to call EWUPD for escorts on campus.
