Escape the cold weather at Big Island BBQ in Liberty Lake

If the cold weather has you longing for a tropical getaway but it’s not in your budget, new Liberty Lake restaurant could be the perfect escape.

Big Island BBQ has the ambiance and the flavors of your favorite getaway spots. They opened their doors at the end of last week and already they’ve served close to 2,000 customers.

Owner Cody Young and his wife say they are fulfilling a lifelong dream in their retirement to open a restaurant. Their travels throughout the pacific is serving as inspiration for the menu as is a health scare for Cody.

“About a year ago I had a heart attack and I really had to look at eating healthier. I didn’t want to live on apples and oatmeal for the rest of my life so I started looking at how do you balance smart food and fun food,” explained Cody.

The answer is combining items like fresh fish, fruit and vegetables in to every dish. When it came to deciding on the menu, the couple decided to reach out to the public on social media for suggestions. The response was overwhelming.

Cody shared, “when islanders get together, its much like the pot luck that everyone here is familiar with. Everyone has got that one special dish and they all bring it. So when you ask for menu suggestions, everyone had they own special dish suggestion, they brought it!”

These next few weeks, they say they will work to narrow down the menu based on customer feedback.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day, but on the second Sunday of every month, they are hosting a special breakfast club to benefit Meals on Wheels. When you make a $20 donation to the organization, you can become a member and enjoy a brunch feast at a 2 for 1 deal and Kona coffee.

Big Island BBQ is located at 1235 North Liberty Lake Road in Liberty Lake.
