SPOKANE, Wash. — An elderly couple was burgled and assaulted at their home near the Finch Arboretum last Friday.

Spokane Police first responded to their home around 2:00 p.m. Thursday for a report of a vehicle theft that had taken place overnight. A man in his early 90s had called Crime Check to report his Cadillac had been stolen out of his garage.

Police were able to find and return the car, but responded to the home again on Friday at 3:00 a.m. when the man’s wife called to say someone was breaking into their home. She said the burglar tried to break into their house after entering the garage.

The woman, who was in her late 80s, said the burglar got into the house and knocked her husband to the ground. He had been trying to hold the garage door closed to prevent the burglar from getting inside.

The burglar had left the scene before police officers arrived. When they got there, they found the elderly man bleeding from his head and hand.

Police do not believe the burglar got away with anything, but did say it looked like they had tried to get into the couple’s car.

The person responsible has not yet been identified and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
