Eastern Washington University reveals $25M stadium renovation plan

Eastern Washington University announced on Friday a plan to completely remodel Roos Field, claiming the current stadium is tired and insufficient.

On its website, the university said, “Eagle Nation deserves a space that matches the strength, passion and hard work of a program that is a point of pride throughout the region and beyond.”

The project is expected to cost $25 million, which will be allocated to adding more seats and upgrading concessions, among other renovations.

Those of you worried about the Red Turf can rest at ease; it’s here to stay. It will, however, be replaced, as the university says the current inferno has reached its life expectancy.

The remodel will increase the amount of chairs from 480 to almost 1,300, though the stadium’s total capacity will stay the same.

So, just how is the project being funded?

The university can’t use money from the state to remodel athletic facilities, so Eastern is asking for donations from the community. It says construction will start as soon as the money is raised.
