Eastern State Hospital escapee captured after going into Medical Lake
MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — A patient from Eastern State Hospital escaped Saturday and went into Medical Lake refusing to come out, according to authorities.
The man escaped sometime before noon on Saturday before he went into the lake, stading in waist-deep water arguing with water rescue crews and the Sheriff’s Marine Deputies.
The man came out of the water around 1:20 p.m. and was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation.
Long-time Medical Lake resident Crystyl Higgins says these sort of things happen more often than it should.
“Yeah, it’s not the first time. I have lived here pretty much my entire life and they have escaped many times before,” Higgins said.
Higgins said she’s never been concerned for her or her family’s safety when patients escape. She just hopes the man gets the help he needs.
Eastern State Hospital declined to comment on how the patient escaped but deputies at the scene told us he was housed in a secure part of the facility.
