East Central shooting suspect still on the loose
SPOKANE, Wash. — New court documents detail accounts of a shooting in Spokane’s East Central neighborhood on Monday.
Spokane Police responded to the shooting at the 5th Avenue Court apartments around 9:00 a.m. Monday; it was the second shooting at this apartment complex in about three weeks.
According to court documents, the shooting victim was found in the apartment, but was not a resident. The victim told police he was shot outside of the apartment and climbed in the window of the unit to get help.
On Monday, a resident called police after hearing gunshots and seeing two men in dark colored, hooded sweatshirts running from the complex. Court documents state the resident told police he did not know the two men.
As the men ran away from the scene, the resident said he could hear another man calling for help. That man, later identified as a high schooler staying at the apartment, said he found the victim in the southeast bedroom of the apartment.
Officers later contacted the high schooler. According to court documents, he said he had been staying at the residence for about a week. Both men living in the apartment told police they had never seen the victim before.
The shooting victim was transported to Sacred Heart with multiple gunshot wounds. He later said that he was at the back door of the house when he was shot several times and climbed into the house through a window to call for help. He had no idea who shot him, court documents state.
The investigation is ongoing.
