ORIGINAL STORY: Washington State Patrol confirms one person has died and five others were injured in a crash involving three cars on Highway 2 near Christensen Rd.

The crash happened at 7:26 a.m. Wednesday, about three miles west of Airway Heights and just north of Fairchild Air Force Base. The five people who were injured were all taken to the hospital. WSP reports their injuries are non-life threatening.

Troopers say a driver in a dark blue minivan caused the crash and may have been impaired. That person is now in the hospital.

Witnesses tell KXLY4 they had been following the driver of the minivan because of his/her erratic driving and were about to report a possible drunk driver when the crash happened.

Investigators have the intersection of Hwy 2 and Chritstensen Rd. closed right now. There is a detour in place.

First responders from the Spokane Fire Dept., the Dept. of Transportation, and Washington State Patrol are all on scene.

The Graham Road Landfill will be closed today due to the crash.
