All nine Spokane Dutch Bros locations are participating in the Drink One For Dane fundraiser on Friday.

All proceeds from the fundraiser go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to fight ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

“I hope that one day, that we’ll find that cause that can lead to a cure. It gives me the chance to reflect,” said Travis Boersma, co-founder and CEO of Dutch Bros Coffee.

The fundraiser is named after Dane Boersma, who founded Dutch Bros with his brother Travis in 1992.

“Dane was my best friend, he was my business partner, my brother – and maybe more importantly than ever today – my mentor,” Boersma said.

Dane passed away from complications due to ALS in 2009.

“Whether that’s speech, breathing, diaphragm, your arms, legs, your smile for that matter – it can take it all away,” Boersma said.

Drink One for Dane is the company’s way of bringing awareness to the awful disesase, while supporting research for treatments and cures.

Last year, the company raised $1.3 million with the fundraiser.

“A mindblow – I can’t believe that we’re able to generate the kind of money and the people that contribute,” Boersma said.

“We do meet some pretty amazing people and we really see the generosity,” said Kevin Parker, owner of Spokane Dutch Bros Coffee stands.

This year, Dutch Bros hopes to raise $1.5 million to end ALS. All you have to do to help is buy yourself a cup of coffee! If you don’t like coffee or caffeine, there are other options you can choose from. Dutch Bros has smoothies, teas, and frosts.

If you don’t want a drink and just want to donate, all Dutch Bros stands have a Drink One for Dane jar you can put money in – big or small, they welcome your donation to ending ALS.
