Domestic violence suspect surrenders after SWAT standoff near Manito Park

SPOKANE, Wash. — A SWAT standoff with a domestic violence suspect ended with the arrest of that man Wednesday night.

Around 6:15 p.m., the father of 34-year-old Eric Johnson called 911 and said his son was naked, high on meth and threatening him with a knife. The father escaped the house, but Johnson refused to surrender, triggering a standoff.

Several streets were blocked near 23rd and Howard while they attempted to get the man out.

At one point, a police robot was sent in, showing Johnson still armed, naked and agitated.

Hours into the standoff, the SWAT team put pepper spray into the house, causing Johnson to surrender peacefully and was taken into custody.

Johnson is charged with 2nd degree assault.
