Deadline for vacant City Council seat is December 31, applications have yet to be reviewed
The vacant seat is for District 2
SPOKANE, Wash. — The deadline for Spokane City Council candidates to submit their applications is Tuesday, December 31.
They are looking to fill newly-elected City Council President Breean Begg’s former spot as council representative for district two. The interim position will last until 2021, after which point the seat will open for elections.
Currently, the City Council has received 14 applications, though they have not been looked at yet, according to the Spokane City Clerk.
Applicants must live in City Council District 2, which encompasses most of downtown Spokane, East Central and all of the South Hill to the outlying neighborhoods by the Spokane International Airport.
The City Council will conduct interviews with four to six applicants on January 13, which will be open to the public. After that, the council will hold an executive session and vote to fill the vacancy.
