Crews battling wildfire near Upriver Drive; evacuations underway

Fire crews from throughout Spokane are battling a fast-moving wildfire north of the Spokane River near Upriver Drive.

A homeowner who called in said the fire was started by a downed power line. He was using a hose to protect his house. Fire crews are working to protect other homes in the area.

One structure has already been lost, but it’s not clear if that’s a home or other type of building.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of issuing level three evacuation notices, which means people need to leave their homes immediately. Those evacuations are for homes south of Valley Springs, East of Minnehaha and north of Upriver.

This is a developing story. We’ll continue to update you as we get more information.
