PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State Cougars were short-handed at home against USC, but they hung around most of the game before falling short 65-56 Thursday in their Pac-12 Conference opener.

It was a dreadful night for CJ Elleby offensively, he finished 2-21 shooting for seven points.

Issac Bonton led the cougs with 18 points, but he too had a long night shooting just 7-26 for a Cougar team that shot under 28 percent on the night.

Washington State was without Marvin Cannon and Jalen Shead tonight, then lost starter Jeff Pollard to injury early in the first half.  Pollard did return late in the game, but missed most of the contest.

The Cougars fall to 0-1 in the Pac-12, they host UCLA Saturday at 4pm
