Coeur d’Alene ranks fifth in Best-Performing Small Cities Report
SANTA MONICA, Calif. — The Milken Institute’s 2018 Best-Performing Cities Report ranked the best small cities in America in terms of job and wage growth, and it turns out the Pacific Northwest is a popular region.
Not one, but two Washington cities made the Top 20 cut.
Ranked at number 16 was Wenatchee, with an unemployment rate of 5.1 percent. Bellingham was ranked at 17, with an unemployment rate of 4.5 percent.
But breaking the Top 10 for the first time was Coeur d’Alene, ranked at 5. According to the report, the city’s lower cost of living, on top of its tourist qualities, have made it a popular destination for retiree communities. In terms of job growth, businesses have seen a 6.3 percent increase in the last year, with the two largest subsectors employing 6,170 people, the report said.
