A Coeur d’Alene man was killed Wednesday after a head-on collision on U.S. Route 95 near Mica Grade.

58-year-old Michael D. Pitts was driving a blue Toyota pickup truck northbound near milepost 424.8 when he struck a grey Ford F350 pickup truck head-on after failing to negotiate a left hand curve. Pitts’ truck rolled onto its top and came to a rest on the passenger side of the shoulder on the highway. Pitts was declared deceased at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Ford F350 – 52-year-old Floyd K. Morris of Post Falls – lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway, going down an embankment on the right shoulder. Both Morris and his passenger, 40-year-old Matthew T. Little of Harrison, were treated and released at the scene.
