City streets director, engineer “changing roles”

The City of Spokane Street Director Mark Serbousek and engineer Andy Schenk have been reassigned as of Thursday, city officials confirm.

Gary Kaesemeyer, the City’s Superintendent for Wastewater Maintenance, has been named Acting Streets Director. City Council will need to confirm him into a permanent position.

In a tweet to KXLY, the City said Serbousek and Schenk are still employed by the City, but will be “changing roles.”

City Council President Ben Stuckart told KXLY that during that public meeting on Thursday, it was announced that both Serbousek and Schenk would be reassigned.

But, when asked to clarify Schenk’s former position with the City, Public Works spokesperson Marlene Feist told KXLY that Schenk was a “principal engineer and will remain so.”

The City says this is a personnel matter, and will not comment further.

On Friday, the City of Spokane declared a Stage 2 Snow Event, prompting a full-city plow.
